STORY: Min-Tse Chen solo exhibition 6/26 - 8/16, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 12, 2008

Joan Grona Gallery is please to present Story, an exhibition of new works by Beijing-based artist Min-Tse Chen curated by Kimberly Aubuchon, Director of Unit B (Gallery), on view in the main gallery from June 26 – August 9, 2008.

Min-Tse Chen is a visual storyteller. Much like a story, her drawings are presented with bold, yet delicate strokes that contain magical scenes and recognizable characters—sometimes mysterious, sarcastic, and funny, but always arresting. Chen creates these impromptu gestures by projecting the concerns of her immediate thoughts—both emotional and psychological—spontaneously to paper. Attributing her inspiration to popular culture, she provides the scenes and characters that we can all relate to, but leaves the viewer to realize and get lost in their stories.

Chen graduated with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2001. Her recent solo exhibitions include, Min-Tse Chen: The Returned of Beijing at Gallery 41, Taipei (2007); Weird Resplendency at Stock 20 in Taichung (2006). She was also included in the group shows, Goin’ Mobile (traveling exhibit) at The Commerce Street Artist Warehouse, Houston, TX (2007); Polvo, Chicago, IL (2007); Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, San Antonio, TX (2008); Texas A&M International University; Laredo, TX (2009); 19th Century Europe Meets 21st Century Taiwan at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, Taichung (2006); and in Animal Logic and the Lack Thereof at Three Walls, San Antonio, TX (2005). She currently lives and works in Beijing, China.
